Department of Immigration and Border Protection: Notices [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Online protection visa lodgement

From 1 July 2017 people seeking protection in Australia will be able to apply online through ImmiAccount. The online application form gives questions relevant to an individual’s circumstances and provides help text if needed. Scanned documents can be attached and payment made for their online application.

Applicants who lodge online will be able to check the status of their application through ImmiAccount.

Online lodgement is the Department’s preferred method of lodgement, however, if lodging online is not a suitable option, please note changes to the paper form and lodgement channels below.

New paper application form

With the launch of online protection visa lodgement, a single paper application form for permanent and temporary protection applications will be available from 1 July 2017. The pre-1 July 2017 application forms (form 866 and form 790) will continue to be accepted for initial applications only.

Subsequent TPV and SHEV applications

A new application – form 1505 –Application for a subsequent class XD subclass 785 (Temporary Protection) visa (TPV) or class XE subclass 790 (Safe Haven Enterprise) visa (SHEV), for subsequent TPV and SHEV applications will be available from 1 July 2017. This form must be used for all subsequent TPV and SHEV applications.

Changes to lodgement channels

If applicants are unable to lodge online, they may lodge a paper application by post to the address specified in legislation. PPV applications can be mailed to Onshore Protection Sydney or Melbourne and TPV and SHEV applications to IMA Protection Support Sydney.

Changes to Visa Application Charges
From 1 July 2017 all current Visa Application Charges (VACs) will be indexed annually in line with the forecast Consumer Price Index (CPI) and rounded to the nearest $5.

  • The indexation only applies to the 1st instalment component of the VAC.
  • Indexation does not apply to 2nd instalment VACs.
  • The indexation of 1st instalment VACs applies to both primary and secondary applicants.

Implementing annual CPI indexation is the reintroduction of a previous standard practice. A fact sheet, which describes pricing changes to all affected visa subclasses, is now available on the Department’s website

The VACs will be updated in the “Fees and charges for visas” section of the Department’s website (https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Fees ) from 1 July 2017.
